Re: College Park

Yes, College Park was hit by a tornado last night just
after 5:00. Most of the University of Maryland campus is
fine, except for buildings on the northeast corner, near
University Blvd. and Adelphi Rd. Our brand new Clarice
Smith Performing Arts Center was damaged--lots of broken
windows, ceiling tiles down, etc. (the dedication of the
new center is planned for this weekend). The campus
libraries and archives seemed to have fared pretty well--we
called them all last night and still haven't received any
requests for the salvage squad yet today. Unfortunately,
two students were killed on campus when their car was
picked up and thrown by the storm. There is also damage to
local businesses and schools. Classes are canceled for us
today, but staff reported.

Thanks for your concern.
Sue
