HERITAGEQUEST ONLINE(tm) HOW TO REQUEST A FREE TRIAL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last year, HeritageQuest Company announced the delay of our census effort.
We
have now announced that we are moving forward with this project as a result
of our acquisition by ProQuest Information and Learning.
Initially launched in December 2000, the ProQuest Genealogy & Local History
Online(tm) is changing its name to HeritageQuest Online(tm), with integrated
content from both companies. As with all of our databases and indexes we
will
continue to display the original page from the handwritten document or
published source, not just a citation. These include more than 25,000
published genealogies and local histories digitized, every word searchable;
Sanborn(r) fire insurance maps; complete Freedman's Bank Records; the entire
US Census, 1790-1930, the entire Canadian Census; American Revolutionary War
Pension & Bounty Land Warrant Applications and obituaries from more than 150
newspapers across America. Enhanced digital images of every page and new
indexing will provide every library with the most requested resources for
genealogists and local historians.
The collection of 25,000 published genealogies and local histories includes:
family genealogies, county & town histories, church histories, maps,
atlases,
vital records and over 200 genealogical journals.
As HeritageQuest Online(tm) grows, it will include not only the census
images
and indexes, but a wide range of original documents and published materials
in a digital format. New content is added weekly, with census material
available online by December 2001.
Librarians can obtain more information and free online trials by contacting
ProQuest sales at, 800-521-0600, ext. 3183 or 3452 or
Individuals interested in more information should call 800-760-2455. Free
SAR PATRIOT INDEX TO INCLUDE PICTURES OF GRAVESTONES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The SAR Patriot Index Committee has announced that work has started on the
Third Edition of the SAR Patriot Index CD. This Edition will again break new

ground in genealogy database concepts by including pictures of tombstones of

Patriot Ancestors and their spouses. In addition, the Third Edition will
include data from as many recent Applications and Supplemental Applications
as can be processed by the publication date.

The SAR Patriot Index CD contains information about many thousands of the
Patriots who served heroically during the Revolutionary War to establish our

Country. The CD contains the Patriot's name, the service they performed in
liberating our Country as well as, in many cases, their entire lineage down
to present day members of the Sons of the American Revolution.

By way of review, work started on establishing a database of SAR Patriot
Ancestors almost a decade ago with keying the names of SAR Patriot Ancestors

into a lineage linked database together with their spouses and, in most
cases, the first generation of their descent. The database was soon expanded

to include the complete lineages of SAR Members, and State Societies were
invited to submit the complete lineage of their own members. A number of
State Societies participated by submitting the lineages in their archives,
including Florida, California, Missouri, Maryland and Alabama. In addition,
the Georgia and Pennsylvania Societies keyed a portion of their archive
records into the database.

With the publication of the First Edition of the SAR Patriot Index CD in
1998, a National policy was established to include all Applications and
Supplemental Applications in future SAR Patriot Index CDs.

The SAR Patriot Index Committee worked closely with Progeny Publishing to
develop the specifications for the original search and retrieval software
for
the Patriot Index database. This software, called the Progeny Family
Explorer, forms the interface to the Patriot Index records and allows users
to view and print standard genealogy charts and reports. Since 1998 there
have been several upgrades to this software, with the latest being the
ability to include pictures of tombstones on the upcoming release of the
third edition of the SAR Patriot Index CD in 2002.

The main source for the pictures to be included on the new Patriot Index CD
is going to be those SAR members who have taken a picture of their Patriot
Ancestor's tombstone as part of the documentation process for their own
application or as general documentation for their personal genealogy. In
addition, local SAR Chapters are encouraged to locate and photograph the
tombstones of Revolutionary War Patriots located in their general area for
use in the SAR Patriot Index CD as well to provide permanent documentation
of
aging tombstones.

Any member of SAR (or DAR for that matter) can simply send a picture of a
Patriot Ancestor's tombstone to:

SAR Patriot Index Committee
3 La Costa Court
Ormond Beach, FL 32174-3811

The picture will be scanned and, if requested, returned to the member
sending
it in.

Please include the following information with each picture so that it may be

properly identified with the appropriate Patriot Ancestor in the SAR Patriot

Index database.

Name and address of member or submitter e-mail address (if available), SAR/
DAR National Number (if appropriate), Name of Patriot Ancestor Name and
location of cemetery

The only restrictions are that the picture be suitable for publishing, which

means that you own the picture, and that the inscription on the tombstone
can
be read (or at least partially deciphered).

HOLLY HANSEN APPOINTED NEW EDITOR, EVERTON'S GENEALOGICAL HELPER
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Everton Publishers, Inc. has announced the appointment of author,
historian and genealogical researcher Holly Hansen as editor-in-chief of
Everton's Genealogical Helper.
"Holly has always been so enthusiastic and has such a desire to share
genealogy with people. It was a must for her to lead The Helper into the
future," president and publisher A. Lee Everton said.
Hansen holds a bachelor  of arts degree in  history with a  minor in
information systems and technology from Weber State University in Ogden,
Utah. She owns a small business that has kept her actively involved in
genealogical research and technological advancements. Hansen, a native of
Croydon, Morgan County, Utah, is determined to give the successful
publication a fresh new look with an approach dedicated to helping
researchers of all levels find success in the search for their life stories.
In search of information about a beloved deceased grandmother, Hansen fell
in
love with the world of genealogy. In 1991 she made a conscious decision to
pursue a career in genealogy.
Hansen has traveled nationwide to lecture to professional genealogists. She
has conducted home shows around the country to demonstrate approaches to
genealogical research. Periodicals like HeritageQuest Magazine, Family
Chronicle, and The Genealogical Journal have published her work. Hansen has
stayed close to her roots and is civically involved in her community. She
recently helped establish the Morgan, Utah Family History Center.
For Hansen, "Research is a rush." She recently branched out in her research
when she wrote, The Directory of North American Railroads.
Hansen is a member of the National Genealogical Society, Daughters of the
American Revolution, Augusta Genealogical Society, and the Utah Genealogical
Association.
She is vice president of the Shupe Family Organization, an advisor to the
John Marriott Historical Society, the Marriott Heritage Foundation and is a
delegate to the Federation of Genealogical Societies. She also belongs to
the
National Oral History Association.
The Everton Publishers, Inc., is based at 3223 South Main Street, Nibley,
Utah 84321. For more information call 1-800-443-6325 or visit
www.everton.com. Everton's Genealogical Helper is distributed to more than
200,000 readers in the United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico and Australia.
