Project Archivist http://www.lee.edu/hr/jobs/archivist.html JOB DESCRIPTION: In conjunction with a two-year IMLS National Leadership Grant, the archivist/cataloger will be responsible for sorting, selecting/organizing the Humble/Exxon Collection at Sterling Municipal Library and the Baytown Historical Museum in preparation for digitizing and creation of a Web-based database. Will perform automated (MARC format) original cataloging of archives materials for inclusion in the Web-based Innovative Interfaces Inc. catalog. The Project Archivist will also assist the program director, located at Lee College, in selecting the scanning and other equipment needed and will work directly with the manager to prepare a 10% test of the database. Will also work with the Assistant City Librarian-Technical Services to successfully incorporate this project into ongoing projects at Sterling Municipal Library. Will prepare the manual Baytown Sun index for retrospective conversion to automated format by verifying subject headings with the latest edition of Library of Congress Subject headings and establishing a name authority file. QUALIFICATIONS:  Must hold a Bachelor's degree with experience in archives and/or cataloging. A Master's degree is preferred. Possible degrees include MLS degree, Master's in Archival or Museum studies, Information Science, Preservation and Conservation. Must have knowledge of and experience in the issues and standards related to metadata, cataloging, and information retrieval. Must have at least one year of related experience. Must have demonstrated knowledge of cataloging principles and preservation techniques. Must have the ability to work with diverse groups to meet grant objectives, the ability to meet deadlines, to effectively communicate orally and in writing and the ability to work independently. SALARY:  This is a full-time, administrative support staff position funded by a 2-year federal grant. The starting salary range will be $33,494 to $35,569 depending upon credentials and prior experience. Excellent college benefits accrue with this position.
