Re: Destruction of the Port Authority Library

Michael:

I have heard that the Port Authority Library had been moved out of the
WTC to another Port Authority building several years ago. Unfortunately,
I have not been able to verify this.

There has also been a persistent rumor that the Authority's "archives"
were completely destroyed. Considering that the agency is 80 years old
and that, even with the usual loss of records over time, their archival
records must have been immense (this is, after all, the agency that
built 2 tunnels, 4 bridges, 2 airports, numerous docks and the World
Trade Center) I find it hard to believe that they would have filled
extremely expensive office space in the WTC with archival records.
Unfortunately, the Port Authority doesn't seem to have had an archivist
so I haven't been able to confirm this rumor either pro or con.
