Presidential Records Act

Here are several web links for those interested in the controvery over the new Bush executive order on the Presidential Records Act (PRA).
     (1) The Los Angeles Times has an editorial, "A Dark Oval Office," 11/6/01, posted at http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-000088720nov06.story.
     (2) If you go to the Cspan website, you can find links to the Congressional hearing held on the PRA on 11/6/01. There is a separate link to an appearance on this topic by Public Citizen attorney Scott Nelson on "Washington Journal." Type in "records" in the search box and it will take you to the two links, which will remain active on the Cspan site for the next two weeks. The hearing on Tuesday on the PRA was chaired by Rep. Steve Horn (R - CA), chair, House Government Reform Subcommittee. Witnesses included John Carlin, Archivist of the United States; Anna Nelson, American University; Mark Rozelle, Catholic University of America; Scott Nelson, Public Citizen.
     (3) Public Citizen has posted a press release on its views on the EO and the PRA at
http://www.citizen.org/pressroom/release.cfm?ID=896
as well as its letter to Rep. Horn at: http://www.citizen.org/litigation/briefs/FOIAGovtSec/articles.cfm?ID=6418.
