Re: The thorny job application process

This has been an interesiting discussion, which I hope has been noted by
those who serve on committees and/or who are responsible for hiring. It
seems to me that if an instituiton, business etc. solicits applications for
a specific position, it incurs an obligation to keep applicants informed of
the progress, or lack of progress, of the search. At the very least, the
institution should send a letter or postcard acknowledging receipt of
applications and a letter to the unsuccessful candidates at the conclusion
of the search. Applicants should also be notified if a search is unduly
delayed or suspended.

Unsolicited applications for non-existant openings are a different kettle of
fish and probably cannot be acknowldeged by anything more than a postcard,
if that.

My 2 cents

The problem is that one never knows when the process has been completed and
the position is filled.
