Dear Fellow Subscribers,

Please note the following opening, ideal for
graduate student and
postdoctoral students with strong library
archive/research skills.

Primary Source Microfilm is currently seeking to
fill the position of a
full-time editor. Because of the unusual
character of the position,
graduate students, postdoctoral instructors, or
research professionals with
strong credentials in the humanities of social
sciences and equally strong
archival research skills willing to explore a
career outside of academia are
among the best-qualified candidates for such a
position. I hope you will
consider presenting this position to interested
individuals or posting it
within plain view.

I have enclosed a description. The position is to
be filled first week of
January, so the selection process begins in
earnest in December.

Thank you for your assistance.

Yours,

seeking an editor who will conduct acquisitions
and perform strategic
analysis duties within the advanced research
market (i.e., market of
reference materials for doctoral students and
faculty).

WHAT YOU'LL DO...
ACQUISITIONS EDITORS HAVE DUTIES IN THREE MAIN
AREAS:

MICROFILM ANALYSIS AND ACQUISITIONS, IN WHICH YOU
* establish and maintain relationships with key
stakeholders for microfilm
projects at major academic library and research
institutions, particularly
those in departments of special collections, rare

acquisition and
production; and support sales and marketing
efforts through public and
written presentations.

DIGITAL AND PRINT PUBLICATION PROJECT SUPPORT, IN
WHICH YOU
* oversee, when needed the development of
historical documents for digital
and print product lines; commission evaluators,
selectors, writers, and copy
editors in development, digitization, and
contextualization of historical
documents; negotiate digital or print publishing
rights with source
libraries or archives, author estates, and
publishers and agents.

STRATEGIC ANALYSIS OF ADVANCED RESEARCH MARKETS,
IN WHICH YOU
* Thoroughly investigate major research trends in
the humanities and social
sciences; attend relevant conferences and perform
qualitative and
quantitative analyses via survey, in-depth
interview, focus group, and
literature reviews of trends in research areas and
methodologies; deliver
intelligence on competitor products, pricing, and
strategy as well as
broader market trends.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR...
* Someone with an advanced degree in the
humanities or social sciences
(Ph.D. not required) interested in exploring a
nonacademic career that takes
full advantage of his/her research background
* Someone with a fundamental grasp of archival
research methods and of how
research libraries work
* Someone with excellent PC skills and superior
written and oral
presentation skills.
* Someone with the willingness and openness to
acquire new skills, a
polymathic love of all areas of intellectual
study, a good sense of humor,
and the ability and humility to listen, learn, and
work within project
teams.
* Someone who loves the smell of old books, the
crinkling of yellowing
pages, the deciphering of illegible autographs...
* Someone who is willing to travel and serve as a
"diplomat" to the world of
archival research.
