presents a one-day workshop
PRIVACY ISSUES AND BILL C-6: LEARNING THE ROPES
Why does privacy matter? What do Canadian businesses have to do to
comply with legislation governing privacy protection?
Bill C-6, the federal government's Personal Information Protection and
Electronic Documents Act, came into effect in January 2001 and will
affect all Canadian organizations involved in commercial activities by
January 2004. It is essential that Canadian organizations and their
staff have a solid understanding of privacy provisions and
requirements as stipulated by Bill C- 6.
This full-day course discusses what constitutes personal information
and privacy and provides an overview of Canadian and foreign privacy
legislation. It covers the steps that Canadian businesses must take to
ensure effective collection, protection, disclosure, and use of
personal information.
The course is evenly balanced to allow for lecture, group discussion,
and practical case exercises to give participants practice in applying
what they've learned. Participants are also given a privacy risks
summary and a privacy audit checklist tool.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Staff in all Canadian private-sector organizations who have
responsibility for ensuring the protection and proper use of personal
information resources. This may include records managers, directors of
