Re: Electronic Archive

Your scenario inhabits my archival nightmares, and is an inevitable future,
though I still think we're more likely to get mixed collections - some
paper, some electronic.

My main thought is document, document, document. Assuming one can actually
manage the data from one format to another (and there's an alternative to
migration called emulation, which is worthy of longer discussion), it's
entirely incumbent on archives staff to document each and every change, each
check of the data, etc. Word docs to me are no big deal; at the very least,
print them out & even if certain features don't work (hyperlinks, etc.) at
least the basic data will be there. On the rest of the types of docs, one
has to do one's best.

If everything is chronicled (i.e. "1/18/2025 - migrated to Word 753.1.2")
you've done your best.

Oh, and yes, you have to resubscribe. Send an email unsubscribing from the
old address, then a message subscribing from the new address. I don't
believe there's an automatic way to do it, but you can check with Bob
Schmidt, the list manager about that.
