articles on archival education and EAD authority

Please excuse cross-postings.

Dear colleagues,

Two archives-related articles were recently published in _OCLC Systems &
Services_ journal.

1. Jimerson, Randall C. (2001) "Graduate archival education at Western
Washington University," v.17, no. 4, pp. 157-164.

Dr. Jimerson is an associate professor of History and the director of the
graduate program in Archives and Records Management at Western Washington
University (WWU), WA. He is also a 2001 SAA Fellow. The archival education
program at WWU is provided by the the History Department. It provides a
wide range of courses focused on basic core archival functions such as
appraisal, acquisition, arrangement, description, preservation, reference,
access, outreach, and advocacy. In addition, courses focused on information
organization and management using modern technology and standards are also
offered.

2. Calvo, Antonio M. (2001) "Structuring biographical data in EAD with
the Nomen DTD," v.17, no.5, pp. 187-198.

Mr. Calvo is a Humanities/Music Librarian at University of the Pacific,
Stockton, California. He developed an XML DTD (called Nomen DTD) based on
the MARC21 format. Nomen DTD provides a record structure for encoding
biographical data such as authorized name, variant names, and biographical
details of a person in EAD. His article also discusses the possibility of
creating an authority file for EAD data encoding and linking.

Interested readers can retrieve these two article from the Emerald MCB
