Well I can weigh in too! I worked for Enron (14 years ago! 88-90) and at
that time there was a records management function, but no archivist. IIRC
the RM function was outsourced c.1990-91 but not sure. In the early 1990s
Enron outsourced a large amount of non-core functions (IT, RM, mailroom,
etc). They had a a state of the art records center (for that time) with a
capacity of 100K cubic feet as well as leased space with about 50K of cubic
storage.
