Invitation to Web-Wise Conference

With Apologies for Cross Posting:

Invitation to Web-Wise 2002

The Institute of Museum and Library Services' third annual Web-Wise
Conference on Libraries and Museums in the Digital World will be held March
20-22, 2002. The conference is co-hosted by Johns Hopkins University's
Sheridan Libraries and will be held on the university's campus in Baltimore.
This year's theme is "Building Digital Communities." The meeting will focus
on the social and organizational as well as the technological factors that
inhibit or enhance collaboration among those involved in the creation and
use of digital resources--including library, museum and archives
professionals, computer scientists, educators and learners. IMLS has been
funding collaborative digital projects since 1998, and many sessions will
feature successful collaborative project presentations in addition to panel
discussions and comments by experts representing a range of professional
stakeholders. The keynote speaker is Clifford Lynch, executive director of
the Coalition for Networked Information.

The full agenda and registration page are now posted on the conference Web
site at http://webwise.mse.jhu.edu. Registration is limited in order to
facilitate discussion and networking among participants. There is no
registration fee. Participants are responsible for their own travel and
lodging expenses.

The conference hotel, the Renaissance Harbor Place Hotel, is conveniently
located near Baltimore's Inner Harbor, National Aquarium and other
attractions. A continental breakfast will be provided March 21 and 22 and
lunch on March 21. All sessions will be held at the university's conference
center. To reserve a room at the conference hotel at the rate of $169 per
day, call 800-468-3571 before February 26 and say that you are attending the
Web-Wise 2002 Conference.

Questions may be directed to Sayeed Choudhury, director of the Digital
Knowledge Center at Johns Hopkins University's Sheridan Libraries and
conference co-host, at sayeed@jhu.edu.
