American Heritage Center Eleventh Annual Symposium
September 18-20, 2002
University of Wyoming, Laramie
The American Heritage Center, a manuscript repository at the University of Wyoming (UW), in association with the UW American Studies Program, will host the Center’s Eleventh Annual Symposium September 18-20, 2002. The year 2002 is the centennial of the publication of Owen Wister’s famous western novel, The Virginian, and is also the 50th anniversary of the American Studies Program at the University of Wyoming.
The symposium’s program committee requests proposals for papers and sessions examining various aspects of the American West. Topics can include, but are not limited to, western literature, images of the West, easterners’ views of the West, western tourism, western wilderness, and western wildlife. Papers on related themes or ideas, or which place the culture of the West into an American Studies perspective are welcome. Student research sessions are also appropriate.
For each paper or panel please submit a 250 word abstract. Include the title of the presentation, the full name of all presenters, institutional affiliations, vitas, mailing addresses, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail addresses, and any special requirements such as slide projectors or other equipment. Abstracts should be submitted electronically if at all possible. If funding is identified, selected papers will be published in symposium proceedings.
