POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
THE TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES

TITLE:  Exhibits and Outreach Coordinator

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library at
Texas Tech University invites applications for a continuing appointment,
assistant archivist position.  Responsibilities include coordinating
activities in the Exhibit and Outreach Unit, conducting research for
exhibits and public history oriented activities, planning and implementing
outreach events, including communicating with a wide array of disciplines
and departments.  Supervises exhibits preparatory staff and full complement
of student help.  Arranges and facilitates student internships within the
unit.  Reports to the Assistant Dean.

QUALIFICATIONS:  M.A. in History or related field; or M.L.S. from an ALA-
accredited library school.  Archival course work required.  Two years in an
archival setting may be substituted for archival course work.  Ability to
work with many individuals on a variety of projects and under deadline;
excellent communication skills; demonstrated evidence of writing and
editing skills.  PREFERRED: Teaching experience at the secondary and
college levels.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:  Beginning salary of $33,900. Comprehensive benefits
include choice of retirement programs, including TIAA-CREF; 13 state
holidays; developmental leave opportunities; moving allowance; and no state
or local income tax.  This position holds academic status with
opportunities for promotion and continuing appointment.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Texas Tech University (<http://www.texastech.edu>)  is
a state-supported institution with an enrollment of 25,000. It is the
newest of four major comprehensive state universities in Texas.  A wide
range of academic programs is offered in nine colleges and Schools of Law,
Medicine, and Allied Health/Nursing, including nearly 100 degree offerings
at the master?s level and 50 at the doctoral level.  The University Library
has 2.1 million volumes, an annual budget of over $9 million and is a
member of the Association of Research Libraries.  The Southwest
Collection/Special Collections Library, which opened a new building in
1997, is one of the country?s premier research facilities.  The Lubbock
area (population 225,000) is the West Texas center for education,
agriculture, health care, banking and business.  Additional information
