Re: Scanner advice
We have a Umax Mirage IIse with transparency adaptor. We use it for 120mm, 4x5, 5x7, 6x8, and 8x10 b/w and color negatives (film and glass); and prints, maps, and drawings up to 11x17. We have not been satisfied with the quality of scans for slides and 35mm negatives, so we purchased a Nikon LS-2000 slide scanner--it works like a charm. Both of these are now over two years old, so I am sure there are newer, cooler machines from the same companies.

In looking at Evan's original post again I see that the requirement was for
11x17 prints, which the ScanMaker 4 cannot accomodate (it has a limit of 8
1/2" x 14"). Microtek may well have another that does larger scans, but I
know that the price goes up dramatically when you get into oversized
scanning beds.

Subject: Scanner advice
Apologies if this has been discussed recently...
Has anyone got a tip on a good and reasonably priced scanner that make
sense of:
- 35mm negatives (b&w -- color would be great, but possibly a pipe dream)
- 4x5 negatives, glass and otherwise (b&w)
- photographic prints up to 11x17
Surely there must be a versatile flatbed out there that can do all this
reliably.
