Tue Mar 12, 2:16 PM ET
By ROBERT BARR, Associated Press Writer
LONDON - The diaries of Irish rebel Sir Roger Casement, which recorded his homosexual contacts and perhaps paved the way for his hanging, are genuine, researchers said Tuesday.
Some of Casement's supporters have contended the so-called "black diaries" were forged, though since they were made available for study in 1959 there has been a growing acceptance that they are authentic.

Guarding corporate documents from inside-out
By Gwen Ackerman
March 13, 12:00 -- Like the security guard outside a bank vault who keeps out
unauthorized personnel, Alchemedia Technologies Inc. stands watch over a company's intellectual property at every point in an operating system where data can be either printed or read from the screen.
As corporations make more and more information accessible to more and more people, breaches of information security, mostly from insiders, are becoming an increasing concern.

Industry Leaders Split On Web Regulations Senate Told Media Should Police Digital Copying
By Nicholas Johnston
Last month, Walt Disney Co. Chairman Michael Eisner told a Senate committee that  federal legislation -- or at least the threat of it -- was necessary to spur efforts to halt the rise of illegal copying of digital media on the Internet.
Yesterday, before a different Senate committee, a different media executive, Richard Parsons, AOL Time Warner's co-chief executive, offered a different perspective.

News & Record
GREENSBORO -- Federal prosecutors have filed a lawsuit against five North Carolina inmates they contend filed $500 million worth of frivolous liens against
judges and court officials.
Those inmates, each seeking $100 million, are filing fraudulent liens and other bogus paperwork "with the purpose of harassing and annoying government officials," according to a lawsuit the U.S. attorney's office filed last week in U.S. District Court in Greensboro.

Industrial scale shredding
alleged
Claim rejected by Chris Ayres
ANDERSEN employees in Houston and London organised an almost industrial operation to destroy “literally tons” of documents related to the accounting firm’s auditing of Enron’s books, according to the US Justice Department.
“The shredder at the Andersen office at the Enron building was used virtually constantly and, to handle the overload, dozens of large trunks filled with Enron
documents were sent to Andersen’s main Houston office to be shredded,” said Larry Thompson, the Deputy Attorney-General.

Idle LCCC computer questioned
by BRYAN NOONAN
Two years ago, Lake City Community College purchased a $150,000 state-ofthe-art mainframe computer to quicken the flow of communication within its administrative systems. More than 700 days have passed and campus users have still not been switched over to the new administrative mainframe.
"We purchase things with the full intent that they are going to be utilized immediately," said Michael Davis, director of data processing at the college. "We don't just go out and purchase for the sake of purchasing. We purchase with the intent of making use of it and this situation was unfortunate. Other priorities took precedent."

How Malcolm X papers ended up in a San Francisco auction
By Renee Koury
Knight Ridder Newspapers
SAN JOSE, Calif. — The mystery of how a valuable cache of personal writings by Malcolm X turned up for auction in San Francisco began to unravel last week when a family attorney acknowledged one of the slain leader's daughters had "removed" the papers from the family's possession.
The daughter, Malikah Shabazz, rented a storage locker in Florida under the name Malikah Brown and stashed the papers there, according to information in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Nixon Rift Much More Than a Sister Act
Politics: The flap over a multimillion-dollar bequest is part of a power grab by
library executives, a foundation board member says.
By SCOTT MARTELLE, PHIL WILLON and STUART PFEIFER, TIMES STAFF WRITERS
In a simmering controversy over the stewardship of the Richard M. Nixon Library & Birthplace, advocates for the former president's feuding daughters sought to frame the dispute Friday in sharply different terms--and to lay some of the bad blood to backroom
politicking within the Nixon Foundation itself.
One board member said Friday that legal challenges over a multimillion-dollar bequest to the foundation are part of a power grab by library executives and an attempt to bypass the foundation's 24-member board of directors.
