Website Management and its interaction with your Records Management responsibilities

Title: Message
Dear, Colleagues

Who said Records Management wasn't exciting nor challenging?

I refer you to a document in Draft Form from the Western Australian Department of Industry and Technology "DoIT" titled
Guidelines for State Government Websites.

The document is available at http://www.indtech.wa.gov.au/govt/polguides/websites/index.htm in a .PDF or Word format.

I have reviewed the document and found it to be extremely thorough, well thought out and worth a read, over a number of days. I admit, I skimmed it and concentrated on the RM side of the exercise.

If you as a Records Manager take on the responsibilities of implementing these guidelines "once they have been finalised" you will have a challenging, rewarding though hectic working life.

This situation is, in my view a part of what Records Management is about in 2001 and the future.

This document is a heavy read, if you as a RM professional are not in a position to take it on board, now is the time to update your skills as this is the FUTURE and it is here NOW!

Comment of the day: Box chucking is out ------ Management of websites is in.

Yours Sincerely, Laurie Varendorff
