Re: Photo adhesive/backing--Removal?

I think I would also leave the photos attached to the paper, if possible,
for two reasons: you might possibly tear them and also the fading of the
photo probably is due to the photo paper and not the acid paper it is
mounted on. I also remember from photography class years ago that if the
developer and fixer were not done probably, the photo would fade, etc.
However, as a backup measure to conserve the image itself, I would make a
second copy by getting a negative made and print from that. I would also
consider getting another copy made in some digital format on zip disk or
cd-rom or something.

Subject: Photo adhesive/backing--Removal?

I am working on a number of photogrpahs that have been mounted on pages of
a report. Because the pages are acidic, I have, of course, removed the
photos (many photos were beginning to fade). When removing the photo, a
layer of paper remains on the page, but there is still an additional layer
of paper, with the other side of the adhesive material, still attached to
the photo (the photo is thicker than is normal). If I try to remove the
remaining adhesive, the original shiny back of the photo comes off as well,
but the photo is still intact. Is this acceptable, or should I leave the
adhesive/backing in place.

Thanks in advance,
