If anyone is a science fiction/fantasy buff, all of Anne McCaffrey's books on the world of Pern (The Dragon Riders of Pern, et al)  rely VERY heavily on archives.   Archives actually ensures the survival of their world.

ooh-perfect timing.  I'm in the midst of a Robertson Davies reading frenzy
right now.  That was in the Lyre of Orpheus where someone steals something
out an unprocessed collection.  (really takes the challenge out of it being
unprocessed, though! ;-)  ) Between that one and Rebel Angels there is some
good stuff about being an executor and distributing items to museums and
libraries.
