I was at a workshop Monday where Ed Fox, the guy behind ETD from Virginia
Tech, used as the two most important selling points the saving of binding
costs and shelf costs of NOT having paper copies. He said most places are
contracting with UMI to have them sweep their database, retain 'archival'
copies, and produce microfilm/paper copies on demand.
