Technical Services Archivist
Duke University Archives

The Duke University Archives acquires, preserves, and makes accessible
University records with permanent historical and research value.  The
Technical Services Archivist processes these records according to national
and local standards.  Additional responsibilities include assisting the
University Archivist with records transfers, serving as a liaison to campus
offices and officials as needed,providing occasional reference assistance,
andsupervising student assistants and project staff.  Reports to the
University Archivist.

Responsibilities
·  Processes archival records, series, and collections to the appropriate
   level according to local and national standards.
·  Screens new accessions for student records; must recognize and restrict
   confidential information according to the FERPA and university policies
   on access to records.
·  Supervises the processing work of student assistants, interns, and
   project staff.
·  Works cooperatively with Technical Services staff of the Rare Book,
   Manuscript, and Special Collections Library (RBMSCL) in creating finding
   aids and catalog records using EAD and MARC.
·  Works with the University Archivist to maintain intellectual control of
   records stored offsite.
·  Meets with selected campus offices and groups to facilitate timely
   transfer of records.
·  Provides occasional reference service to both on-site and remote
   researchers.
·  Participates in library and campus committees, professional
   organizations, and the greater academic community as appropriate.

Qualifications
Required: master's degree from an ALA-accredited program or an advanced
degree in history, public history, or related field; archival training and
experience; familiarity with standard archival procedures;experience
processing and working with organizational records;familiarity with
standard software applications, online catalogs, and bibliographic
utilities.  Must be flexible and a self-starter, possess excellent
interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, and have the
ability to be an enthusiastic participant in a collaborative
service-oriented environment.  Desirable: experience creating archival
finding aids using EAD and collection level MARC records.

Salary and Benefits
This is an entry level position with appointment at the rank of Assistant
Librarian; minimum salary $34,800. Comprehensive benefits package includes
20 days vacation, 13 holidays, 12 days sick leave; health, dental,
disability and life insurance; retirement plan options; educational

and its five branches on campus: Biological and Environmental Sciences,
Chemistry, Engineering and Math-Physics, Lilly, and Music; the Pearse
