Vacancy Announcement
School of Information and Library Science

Date:                           05/10/2002

Classification Title:   Assistant Project Manager

Salary:                 $25,000

Available:                      1 July 2002


This 12 month (with possible funding for 36
months), NHPRC grant-funded
position, is administratively located within the
School of Information and
Library Science, with office space provided in the
Manuscripts Department
within Wilson Library.  The Assistant Project
Manager (APM) for this project
to study electronic records handling practices at
UNC campuses and Duke
University works under the supervision of the
Principle Investigator (PI),
Dr. Helen R. Tibbo, with coordination from the
UNC-CH University Archivist.
The Assistant Project Manager works closely with
the PI and other project
staff, and will spend a portion of his/her time on
location at Duke
University (a free campus shuttle between campuses
is available).  The
Assistant Project Manager organizes activities and
processes of the grant
that will lead to the development of best
recommended practices for
effectively managing desktop information and
records at UNC and Duke.  The
APM will work with project staff to interview and
administer surveys to
university employees; conduct analysis of
subjects? desktop classification
schemes (folder and file organization); develop
data entry procedures to
follow when recording survey results into the
database; design database
reports; conduct literature reviews; assist in
creating classroom and
web-based learning materials; and communicate with
participants who are
involved with the project.  The Assistant Project
Manager will also assist
with the grant?s administrative activities to
insure that they are
effectively carried out and completed in a timely
manner.

Required Qualifications:
·       B.A. degree required;
·       Experience with microcomputers,
particularly with database and word
processing  software such as Microsoft Access and
Word;
·       Ability to organize effectively and
communicate well orally and in
writing;
·       Ability to work closely and cooperatively
with staff and campus offices.

Desired Qualifications:
·       B.A. in the humanities or social sciences;

·       Archival or library experience, especially
with University records;
·       Experience with and/or interest in the
preservation of electronic records;
·       Experience with web page authoring.
