Re: Archives in literature

I thought the movie took place in a striptorium, where the monks copied old books such as the Bible and writings of the Church fathers and other acceptable philosophers. Technically speaking, an archives is the repository of the records of an institution, which in that case might have been something along the lines of tax rolls, sacramental records, ledgers, grants from the king, etc., but nothing that would have probably been thought fit for copying in a scriptorium. Maybe the movie could be looked at as the dark side of "special collections."
