Star Wars: Episode II Archives and Stereotypes, a Few Thoughts

I saw the film last night with my wife and a friend
who went to library school with me. My wife kept
elbowing me every time the words "archive" or
"archivist" were mentioned. I was happy to see that
the Jedi Archives was a busy place and seemed to be
well thought of by the Jedi. The stereotypical
portrayal of the archivist was disappointing but at
least there *was* an archivist in the film. She may
need to work on her customer service skills (at least
Obi-Wan wasn't treated like he was a geneologist) but
she was there. As far as her being a Jedi Knight
herself, that may be in the book but it is not
stressed in the film. It might have been helpful if
she was carrying a light sabre or was addressed as a
Jedi Master by Obi-Wan. I think one important aspect
of this is that this could give us a way to talk to
people about who we really are and what we really do.
Plus, finding that there is a Jedi Archives is really
cool. Maybe someone could put together a job
description for that particular agency.
