NEW YORK -- Several news organizations have challenged the United States
Golf Association's requirement that journalists agree to extensive background
checks before being allowed to cover next month's U.S. Open.
David Schulz, an attorney for six media companies, said in a protest letter sent
to the USGA on Tuesday that the "open-ended demand for information is
unnecessary, inappropriate and should be immediately reconsidered."

13,000 Credit Reports Stolen by
Hackers
By JOHN SCHWARTZ
Hackers posing as employees of the Ford Motor Credit Company have in
recent months harvested a trove of 13,000 credit reports — a virtual onestop
shop for fraud and identity theft — with data on consumers in affluent
neighborhoods across the country.
The company said in a letter to the victims that computer intruders used an
authorization code from Ford Credit to get the credit reports from Experian,
one of three major reporting agencies.
