Re: RAIN's citation for Allentown _Images of America_ book

Took me a minute to realise that the article really wasn't gone, just way,
way down at the bottom of the page. (Someone's poor web design or my
monitor, take your pick...)

Anyway, the clip as follows:

<<Book brings collection of Allentown photos down from the shelf

By Frank Whelan
Of The Morning Call

May 19, 2002
As curator for the Raymond E. Holland Regional and Industrial History
Collection, Carol Front must keep things organized. And row on row of gray,
archival boxes containing historical photos and other memorabilia show she
has that covered.

But Holland, an Allentown businessman and president of the Lehigh County
Historical Society, has also given Front another mission. "Ray believes that
his collection is useless unless it is known and being used," she says. "He
has said, 'You don't buy history to put it under the bed.'">>

My thoughts turn to my grandmother, who was particularly concerned about
taking care of some family letters, mostly a Virginia family from the war of
1812 to "the recent disturbance" or whatever one calls the American
experience of 1861-1865. She was so concerned for the safety of the
documents that she kept them in a leather suitcase always at hand. Even when
she visited us in Michigan, she always kept those letters close to hand.
Under her bed.

She passed away in 1991 so now Mom takes care of the letters. Never mind
where she keeps them, I can assure you they're not under the bed.

Images of Allentown sounds like quite a treat. Thanks, Peter, for calling it
to attention!
