Re: Arrangement Question

Hi there,

It's a good practice to have sub-series in the series "Correspondence",
because it is usually very big, comprising many attachments, and because
here in North America,  sometimes, parts of "dossiers" are also considered
within "correspondence".  In the present case, the correspondence addressed
to Mrs. Briscoe is a serie, because you are arranging her papers and not her
husband's.  The fact that you have "spirit letters" doesn't change the
method. Consider them by sender, in this case, "Andrew Briscoe". If it's a
general procedure for this "fonds d'archives", you can mention the name of
the medium as a co-author of the document. That's the way I see this problem
in the question of Arrangement.

Amicalement a vous,

Iza Poupard.

Subject: Arrangement Question

I have an arrangement question. We are processing the papers of Mary
Jane Harris Briscoe (1818 - 1903), the wife of Andrew Briscoe, signer of
the Texas Declaration of Independence and participant in the Battle of
San Jacinto. Andrew died of yellow fever in New Orleans in 1849. Mrs.
Briscoe was a founding member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas
and very active in the Texas Veterans Association.

Here is the problem. We have 4 letters that were written to Mrs.
Briscoe (and possibly others) by Andrew through a medium. They are
"spirit letters," obviously the result of a seance. So, do the
communciations go in Correspondence Received from her husband or do we
make a new series?

Just wondering.
