Presentation on Conservation help sought

Colleagues,

As part of a local museum's speakers program, I've been scheduled to
make an hour-long talk to community members about conserving their
"family treasures" (as the program title states). I plan to cover the
very basics--e.g..: take the cardboard box of family photos out of the
attic--and make an appeal to send their important materials to my
repository. But I could use your help about making preservation and
conservation materials available to those who want to do this work at
home.

I don't want to re-invent the wheel here, so if you have ever made such
a presentation, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks,
