Martin ... I've done several one-hour presentations such as yours using a powerpoint program to help put the points across. In addition, I usually set up a display of archival materials with labels describing what their purpose would be and go over the more important ones as part of the presentation. I also give handouts, some on specific slides that I think they should remember, some on articles that would help them, and always a list of archival supply vendors and their specialty, if they have one. If you don't have access to a Powerpoint projector, you might consider a few overheads to help make one or two points. I would also suggest that you leave sufficient time for questions.

Subject: Presentation on Conservation help sought
Colleagues,
As part of a local museum's speakers program, I've been scheduled to
make an hour-long talk to community members about conserving their
"family treasures" (as the program title states). I plan to cover the
very basics--e.g..: take the cardboard box of family photos out of the
attic--and make an appeal to send their important materials to my
repository. But I could use your help about making preservation and
conservation materials available to those who want to do this work at
home.
I don't want to re-invent the wheel here, so if you have ever made such
a presentation, I'd appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks,
