A Friday RAINDrop (tenuously on-topic)/Job Interviews

After a looong week, I read an article on the subway in this morning's NY
Times that hit the spot. The article, "Artist's Fame Is Fleeting, But Dog
Poker is Forever," talks about the artist Cassius Marcellus Coolidge,
creator of the famed dogs playing poker, dogs dancing, etc. paintings.
Makes for great trivia knowledge.  There is even some "archival" content;
seems the Philadelphia, NY town historian maintains a "folder of
Coolidge-related material (it is thin)." Even has difficulties getting
some researchers to pay their photocopy bill. This essential knowledge can
be found on-line at

http://www.nytimes.com/2002/06/14/nyregion/14DOGS.html

To contribute a bit more directly to archival discussion: I will not add
anything to the excellent points made by others about resumes, but as
someone who has been on the interviewing side of the desk, may I humbly
suggest researching an institution and its collections before walking into
an interview. At least have a basic familiarity with what the nature of
the company, museum, university and its general holdings. It may seem
basic, but I have been shocked by some folks who came through the door
without any appropriate subject-knowledge whatsoever, and seemingly little
interest in such. Even if you do not have extensive work or educational
background in the subject(s)-area in question, taking a few minutes to at
least browse the institution's website is a plus. Archival
training/experience is necessary, but content-knowledge is the little
something extra that might allow you to stand apart from other candidates.
