Patricia McCusker, , city archivist; at 65

   By Adam D. Kraus, 6/27/2002

P atricia (Belletete) McCusker, the City of Boston's assistant
archivist for eight years, died Sunday at her West Roxbury home
after a long battle with cancer. She was 65.

Ms. McCusker was born in Jaffrey, N.H. In 1958, she graduated from
the University of New Hampshire with a bachelor's degree in English
literature, and in 1992 earned a master's degree in library science
   from Simmons College.

That same year she opened and operated the Book Mill, an antiquarian
bookstore in Concord, N.H. During the three years she ran the store,
Ms. McCusker, a member of the Society of American Archivists, the
New England Archivist Association, and the Antiquarian Booksellers
Association, collected more than 1,000 books, her family estimated.

Reading and collecting books were Ms. McCusker's passions and
pastime. She was especially interested in books on alternative
   medicine and philosophy.

''She was a very spirited and strong person who touched everyone she
met. Her family was her top concern and I'm pretty sure she wanted
to open another bookstore,'' said her daughter, Tracey, of Rhode
   Island.

In addition to her daughter, Ms. McCusker leaves her husband, James
   J. of West Roxbury; three other children, Michelle A. of Medfield,
   Christopher J. of Westwood, and Meghan M. Houlahan of West Roxbury;
her sister Margaret C. Jeannotte of Concord, N.H.; and six
   grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be said tomorrow at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa
   Church in West Roxbury.
