Re: Originals and copies: deeds of gift and "permission to use" forms



The individual or agency which has to prove ownership
or rights to something should get the original.   Thus a
deed of gift -- the original is kept by the repository as it
is a property donation with original signatures and is
needed to prove ownership of "owned" materials, a copy
is given to the donor.

The "permission to use" original however is given to the
requestor since it is a right that they may have to prove,
with copies retained by the repository which granted the
rights.   Susie's statement of who, etc. is correct.   One
way to handle this is to have TWO originals....just like
attorneys--both parties sign, each keeps one.
