U.S. House of Representatives Makes Resolutions in XML
This may be of interest to anyone responsible for the management and/or preservation of government
documents, especially those produced within the legislative branch. The use of XML at any level of
government could (assuming truly standards-compliant and documented implementations) make long-term
access to the documents much easier.

"The House of Representatives is turning to technology with their test of XML for use with resolutions
according to this article [http://security.ittoolbox.com/news/Dispnews.asp?i=75683]. It reports that
the HR has made 100 DTDs and uses Microsoft Word and a special converter to do the job. Testing has
begun and their goal is to start using it in January of next year. See also http://xml.house.gov/ And
it looks like the DTDs will be free to use and distribute!"

"To the extent that archival organizations are concerned
with current record practices and the content of future
holdings, they cannot long delay plans for appraising,
accessioning, and servicing this new [computer] media
of communication."
