Advanced Records Management Course



Advanced Records Management (Course CWRM 864) will be offered at George
Washington University in Washington DC on August 20-21, 2002
(Tuesday/Wednesday) from 8:30-4:30pm each day.

This course is designed to be the culmination of the key courses in the
records management curriculum at George Washington University.  Thus, it
reviews the most important elements of managing both physical and electronic
records in organizations.  The seminar begins with a discussion of the new
paradigms that are currently revolutionizing both the theory and practice of
records management.  Then, new industry standards and best practices
relevant to records management are reviewed.  The heart of the course is a
detailed discussion concerning many of the key practices in advanced records
management: electronic records retention, the management of e-mail,
differentiation between electronic recordkeeping systems and document
management systems, and primary issues for the preservation of digital
records.  A brief overview of recordkeeping systems is offered, and file
management and indexing issues at an enterprise level are presented. In
addition, vital records issues that impact the control, storage, and
retrieval of records are illustrated. The seminar concludes with a
discussion of knowledge management and its relationship to records
management as a key strategy for enterprise records management.
