GENERAL SUMMARY
Performs moderately complex archival work. Work involves arranging and
describing records and manuscripts; preparing finding aids to facilitate
access to records; and assisting users by making records, documents, and
information available or locating other reference materials. Works under
general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and
independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
Arranges and describes records and manuscripts and prepares finding aids.
Conducts initial reviews of assigned materials.
Researches state agencies histories and records provenance or
creator lives and manuscripts provenance.
Advises regarding the archival value of records and manuscripts.
Attends work regularly and in accordance with agency leave and attendance
policies.
Complies with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including
safety and standards of conduct.
OTHER TASKS
Provides reference and research services to archives users in person, by
phone, or mail.
Assists with the relocation of collections.
Transfers records from state agencies and manuscripts from private donors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree from an accredited school with a major in History,
Government, Library Science or related discipline, and coursework in
archival administration.
Ability to collect, organize, research, and interpret information
from various sources and to compose descriptive narratives that are clear,
concise, and grammatically correct.
Ability to work semi-independently and to exercise professional
judgment.
Work/school experience using word processing applications for PC or
Macintosh.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of historical research methodology.
Considerable knowledge of Texas history and government.
Knowledge of the Texas Public Information Act.
Experience with database management applications.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Submission of college transcripts (undergraduate and graduate).
Submission of a finding aid. Finding aids must be the product of the
sole work of the applicant to be given full weight.
Criminal history check.
Ability to lift and carry boxes weighing 50 pounds.
SUPERVISION
Reports to Assistant Director for State Archives, Archives and
Information Services Division.
Has no supervisory responsibilities.
