Re: paint question

On the contrary; I would think the paint would be a good idea to "prepare
and clean" the space. Just make sure it is thoroughly dry before putting
any archival materials (boxed collections, supplies, etc.) up against it.

Subject: paint question

I have been granted some much needed space by my university and have
decided it is time to expand the archives. In addition to having a door
installed, having the carpet ripped up and the underlying glue residue
removed, some of my coworkers would like me to have the room repainted.
The room was formerly a classroom and the chalkboards have been removed
so there is some discoloration on the walls. I'm guessing that they
think if the walls look nice I will let them leave the lights on in the
archival storage area - who knows?

I felt as though I was caving in when I gave the OK to the professional
carpet people to use some really awful chemicals to break down the glue,
so now I am wavering on the paint issue. Just how bad would it be to
have the room repainted? Should I be overly concerned with the paint
fumes? Are there any off-gassing issues I should be considering?

Any and all suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!
