Italian POW's in Texas Panhandle



I hope this information is not too late.

There was a prisoner-of-war camp for Italian soldiers in the Texas
Panhandle.  This camp was located between the towns of Umbarger and Hereford
(both of which are about 50 miles southwest of Amarillo).  Perhaps the most
unique aspect of this bit of history is that these POW's decorated the
interior of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Umbarger with handpainted murals.
