Re: Professional archivists

I used to be on a science-fiction (NOT sci-fi!!) listserv which was
moderated by someone at the National Archives. I don't know if she was
getting paid for her time, but she did a great job, limiting distribution
to 50 messages a day and cutting off any off-topic posts before things ever
got out of hand. Great list, but really not as much fun as this one!

Anyone monitoring ANY list would get the impression that SOMEONE has some
time on their hands. Even the scholarly, moderated, monitored, censored,
laundered H_NET lists require some poor slob to sit there and read all the
postings before sending them out. We assume those moderators have
something
in their contracts that allows them PAID time to do this...

Those who are uncomfortable with the tone of the ARCHIVES list might
investigate starting a stodgy substitute within the H_NET realm. Then they
find someone who has the work release time to make sure no Vernor's
postings
escape his notice....

Vernor's) Scott
