Re: Koine morphology reference works

Is the volume Gerhard Mussies The Morphology of Koine Greek the same as this volume:
The Morphology of Koine Greek As Used in the Apocalypse of St. John: A Study in Bilingualism

Re: The Term Aktionsart

In other words, we need two layers, because the aspect is different. The same layer cannot be both imperfective and perfective. If you mean that each change is its own layer, then it is better not to give them names that mean something else, like lexical layer, grammatical layer, frasal layer. Just...

Re: Metalanguage: pedagogical nuisance or necessity?

I have never taken a conversationalist Greek course, so I do not have personal experience. I do remember, however, that when I studied Greek, we followed a textbook in English, where there were translation exercises from Greek to English as well as from English to Greek. Our professor did not assign...

Re: The Epistemology of Linguistics

Hi MAubrey, Thanks for you response. I stand corrected concerning Buttman. I do not have his grammar, so I only know the part you quoted. That contained an obvious and elementary mistake concerning aorist, so I too hastily thought that his grammar was not up to linguistic standards. You said: "...

Re: The Epistemology of Linguistics

One more thing about philologists to MAubrey, Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philipp_Karl_Buttmann) has this to say of a philologist: "Philipp Karl Buttmann (1764–1829), German philologist, was born at Frankfurt am Main. He was educated in his native town and at the university of Götti...

Re: The Epistemology of Linguistics

Hi mwpalmer and MAubrey, Thanks for your responses. I wrote a long response, but when I pressed the Preview button, I had to log in again and I lost it. Since I do not want to write it again, here are my main points: I stand corrected concerning my too broad attribution of fault to philologists. I s...
