Which "classical dialects" have you found particularly interesting? I've always found the Ionic of Herodotus sort of intriguing with that abundance of etas everywhere and I've had fun with the Aeolic of Sappho and the Sicilian Doric of Theocritus. There was a professor of University of Te...

Hello. I'm an undergraduate student who is majoring in ancient Greek and linguistics. I'm most familiar with the classical dialects as well as Homeric, but I've dabbled a bit in Koine as well.

But even if people aren't interested in Greek for its own sake, knowing the context of the Bible would help understand where the writers are coming from. Why Koine?

Why teach Koine as a living language, as opposed to Classical Greek (namely, the Attic dialect)? The corpus of Greek literature heavily favours the Classical dialects I would imagine.
