Re: "Homeric" Greek Suggestions

Thanks quite a lot follks! To answer the uncertainty: I haven't quite started studying "seriously". I've dabbled in Mounce before, and given a look-over of Funk's grammar. I acquired what I read to be rather serious resources for study, and then life threw a mountain range or two in the wa...

Re: The dwindling group of proficient ancient Greek readers

I don't need grammars when I read, but when I get beyond the texts that I'm most familiar with (the NT, parts of the LXX, and parts of the Apostolic Fathers), I find myself quite reliant on the lexicon. Sorry to jump-in as a newb, but after asking a few questions (for pointers) about starting Greek...

Re: Restored Koine in nontechnical terms

Maybe telling them to pronounce 'you' but substituting 'ee' for 'y' and making comparisons to 'ewe'? I think it's reaonable to make some linguistic demands of people learning a new language: even without linguistics under belt. One cannot even evade this learning a language relatively simple as Span...

Re: J. Bradley Bulsterbaum

Thanks much to all. P.s. Your (Mr. Buth) papers on importance of pronunciation even in a dead language (as far as it being a stage of the language with different rules and a different context) slowed me down and got me reading further years back. Health issues would have blocked any extensive or con...

Re: J. Bradley Bulsterbaum

Er...I have Machen's little book as well. (An older edtion) actually. As for videos, know of any that follow Buth's reconstruction? Does the video linked by you do that? Apologies for the inundation of questions, but insofar as goes Greek, I'm a babe. After this post, however, I think I will try to ...

Re: J. Bradley Bulsterbaum

the argument for Koine is the strongest of all and can be summed up in two words: Buth and Rico. Er...if you mean Christophe Rico of http://poliskoine.com/ I have to say I'm not normally in favor of learning Greek by jumping into French with a background in Spanish, but I could give it a go... : ) ...

why are terms like 'Biblical Greek' and 'NT Greek' still current? Er...sorry to answer as a newb, but perhaps for emphasis on the peculiarities to those texts themselves? Hello. My study of languages consists mostly of Spanish, with a lot of looking back on English in that pursuit. I have had some Latin texts in front of me for a while now, but not consistently, because I have had to work so much for the past few years. Before that, I was studying biology. I might ev...
