Re: ἀλλήλους

but some like the Brill Dictionary of Ancient Greek ... This can do nothing but lead you astray. Like looking at LSJ. Solve the problem for one contextual use at a time. What does it mean in 1 Thes. 4:9? Suggest reading Reinier de Blois on contextual semantic domains . Anything you can find. For ex...

Re: a temporal reference in Heb. 4:15

What you say is confusing, at least to me. The OP talks about "present participle", but the only present participle in the sentence has nothing to do with time of the testing. And you say "second temporal sphere..." What second temporal sphere? Then you say "It could be NOW...

Re: a temporal reference in Heb. 4:15

I understand the assertion in Hebrews 4:15 that the intended readers of Hebrews have a High Priest who was πεπειρασμένον δὲ κατὰ πάντα καθ’ ὁμοιότητα .. . as having a specific temporal reference and is conveying the idea that in Jesus the readers of Hebrews have ""one who has been tested ...

Re: dative of things possessed?

You might think of semantic categories for the cases as "training wheels" on a bicycle. First you learn them to keep you steady and then you forget them. They are not "science" and are disposable.

I was also unaware that this was a continuation of a previous thread. I dropped into a discussion that had a history already.

Re: Hebraic/Hebrew Genitive

Ok, I misunderstood. The topic under discussion is semantic not syntax. Zewick pp. 40-41, BDF §165 II, Turner pp 212-213. Turner discusses the Hebrew construct state elsewhere pp 34, 169, 170, 173, 179f. I was framing the topic as a greek genitive functioning like the substantive following a Hebrew ...

Re: Hebraic/Hebrew Genitive

Ghassan Khalaf in his book “The Adnominal Genitive in the Pauline Corpus”, talking of the Hebrew Genitive states on page 94 This kind of adjectival genitive is called the “Hebrew” genitive, because it is rarely found in classical Greek. Its function and usage are almost exclusively Hebrew… Blass an...

Re: G and OG in Isaiah.

So when we talk about the number of perfects found in G Isaiah there is a searchable tagged text of this being used for research. Yes, that would be Ziegler's critical edition in the Göttingen series, morphologically searchable through Logos. https://www.logos.com/product/180074/isaias Great, myste...

Re: G and OG in Isaiah.

Is G used interchangeably with OG in reference to Isaiah? Yes, in my commentary G is just short for Greek. It can stand for the Old Greek translator or his translation (=OG). G and OG in Isaiah.

I'm reading selected portions of Ken Penner's text & commentary on Isaiah Codex Sinaiticus. It has been a couple of decades since I have read anything technical about textual criticism in the Greek old Testament. I'm having problems with the abbreviations. I'm guessing that G doesn't refer to a ...
