Re: Did Jesus Refer to the Law as the LXX?

The usual explanation is that Jesus said "yod" and that Matthew used the the closest Greek equivalent. To say that this refers to the LXX would be a mighty big stretch. Okay, I have indeed read this interpretation from a couple of exegetes. Just running my musings by those w. far more knowledge tha...

Re: Did Jesus Refer to the Law as the LXX?

Far far far from an expert here but the question assumes that the recorded sentence was originally Greek therefore used ιωτα I didnt want to weight in on the discussion of languages spoken in Palestine, but for this issue we could be dealing with a translation of a Hebrew or Aramaic original spoken...

Did Jesus Refer to the Law as the LXX?

(Analytical Greek New Testament; Mt. 5.18): ἀμὴν γὰρ λέγω ὑμῖν· ἕως ἂν παρέλθῃ ὁ οὐρανὸς καὶ ἡ γῆ, ἰῶτα ἓν ἢ μία κεραία οὐ μὴ παρέλθῃ ἀπὸ τοῦ νόμου, ἕως ἂν πάντα γένηται. I was reading a journal paper tonight on the importance of original language use by ministers when I noted that, in referring to ...

Re: Needing Help with Erasmus Exemplar

Anyone who has done typesetting knows ligatures from typographic ligatures: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typographic_ligature When I learned how to set lead type, we had a tray with letters for "fi", "fl", "ffi", "ffl", and some other combinations. They looked like this: https://upload.wikimedia.o...

Re: Needing Help with Erasmus Exemplar

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly does the author mean by “ligatures” ? "The minuscule script is a joined-up or cursive script. As in other cursive scripts, letters attach to each other in a variety of ways. These connections between letters are known as ligatures... Keep in mind that the amoun...

Re: Needing Help with Erasmus Exemplar

Thanks. However, I try to read the Greek NT daily (NA28 & UBS-5) and have no problem speed reading the minuscule type set. The modern Greek script used in the NA and UBS GNT's is set to be easily read after-all. We also benefit from the Greek letters not being in joined-up handwriting. Be willing t...
