Re: Colossians 2:17 - ἅ ἐστιν σκιὰ τῶν μελλόντων
Here is an interesting exergesis... Anyway, the last phrase "but the body of Christ" is in antithesis to "do not let anyone judge you." The idea is that nobody was to judge believers about their faith and practice but other believers. Well, that's a completely biblical concept, ...

Re: Colossians 2:17 - ἅ ἐστιν σκιὰ τῶν μελλόντων
Here is an interesting exergesis... σῶμα simply dosn't mean "substance." It means "body." Hence, τὸ σῶμα τοῦ Χριστοῦ, a common expression in the NT, means "the body of Christ." Greek Text of Textus Receptus: 16 Μὴ οὖν τις ὑμᾶς κρινέτω ἐν βρώσει ἢ ἐν πόσει ἢ ἐν μέρει ἑορ...

Re: Col2:17b-2:18a τὸ δὲ σῶμα τοῦ Χριστοῦ. μηδεὶς ὑμᾶς καταβ
So, ἅ ἐστιν σκιὰ τῶν μελλόντων is future because of the tense of ἐστίν, while ὅς ἐστιν τύπος τοῦ μέλλοντος is certainly future-in-the-past because of the context? The structure and the ideas are so similar in the two verses. It seems odd that this understanding of Colossians has been ruled out for ...

Re: Nomos
Hi Marc, I suggest you try some concordance searches of the Greek NT itself to see how Paul uses nomos in various contexts. You can at least draw some preliminary conclusions that way and then ask more questions as they occur to you. You could start with The Online Greek Bible, http://www.greekbibl...

The ritual laws and Jewish festivals are shadows which we agree on. But Perseus project has a definition that fits the context of the text which implies that Christ is the one casting the shadows. The shadows are the ritual laws and Jewish festivals being cast by Christ. Shadows= ritual laws, Jewis...

Re: Nomos
This is surely too steeped in theology for us to engage here. I'll contact you by PM to let you know some online places that you might be interested in bringing this up at. As per a more appropriate topic, you might ask about the general uses of νόμος in the New Testament - without all of the theol...

Re: Col2:17b-2:18a τὸ δὲ σῶμα τοῦ Χριστοῦ. μηδεὶς ὑμᾶς καταβ
The Greek word translated "but" is δέ. It is postpositive, which means that it usually appears as the second (and occasionally the third) word in its clause. It shows the relationship of the clause or sentence in which it's found to a previous clause or sentence, usually showing contrast ...

ἅ ἐστιν σκιὰ τῶν μελλόντων, τὸ δὲ σῶμα τοῦ Χριστοῦ. I can see the possibility of apposition here, by carrying the verbal sense to introduce the next clause. which things are a shadow of things coming, that is, [which things are] the body/substance of Christ (is does not appear that accusative is ne...
