I'm too late to be helpful but I'll post anyway.
ἐδίστασαν is not a NT hapax but a "twopax." The verb occur earlier in Matthew 14:31. I'll offer up that, in both verses, it means that first Peter and later the 11 "doubted" what Jesus was going to do.

I'm looking for an expert on abbreviations in BAGD. Checking on p.422, in the left-hand column under KATESQIW, in section 2.
