Re: Participles in Ephesians 3:17

Thank for the reply. I did not mean to indicate that the "in love" phrase was circumstantial, but rather the participles. As far as any other NT passage, there is nothing like this one I can find. The few places where participles precede a HINA clause are pretty straightforward. Mk. 15:15 ...

Participles in Ephesians 3:17

Someone may have addressed this previously but these forums seem pretty difficult to search. The text... κατοικῆσαι τὸν χριστὸν διὰ τῆς πίστεως ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν, ἐν ἀγάπῃ ἐρριζωμένοι καὶ τεθεμελιωμένοι, My question relates to the elephant in the room, the two nominative participles, which have ...

Ephesians 3:9

The text...καὶ φωτίσαι [πάντας] τίς ἡ οἰκονομία τοῦ μυστηρίου τοῦ ἀποκεκρυμμένου ἀπὸ τῶν αἰώνων ἐν τῷ θεῷ τῷ τὰ πάντα κτίσαντι My question is about the direct question in the nominative case introduced by the interrogative τίς I would expect that this completes the thought of what Paul is illuminati...

Ephesians 1:23

This may have been addressed elsewhere, so if someone can direct me to a thread on this verse...the verse.. ἥτις ἐστὶν τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ, τὸ πλήρωμα τοῦ τὰ πάντα ἐν πᾶσιν πληρουμένου I have no doubt that to pleroma is in apposition to to soma. There are so many different choices as to how to translate t...

Re: Aorist participle in Eph. 1:9

Thanks for the replies...I also have the electronic edition of Hoehner as well as several others. I did like Barry's response...I feel much the same way...diagrammer's nightmare but loaded with theological grandeur.

Aorist participle in Eph. 1:9

Ephesians 1:8-9a reads as follows: ἧς ἐπερίσσευσεν εἰς ἡμᾶς, ἐν πάσῃ σοφίᾳ καὶ φρονήσει, γνωρίσας ἡμῖν τὸ μυστήριον τοῦ θελήματος αὐτοῦ, Perhaps this has been addressed but how is one to understand the relationship between the aorist participle γνωρίσας and the main aorist verb ἐπερίσσευσεν Given wh...

Passive verbs in Romans 10:10

I do not know if this has been addressed previously, but I could not find it with a search. The text of Romans 10:10: καρδίᾳ γὰρ πιστεύεται εἰς δικαιοσύνην, στόματι δὲ ὁμολογεῖται εἰς σωτηρίαν. My question involves the two passive verbs pisteuetai and homologetai. Does anyone have any idea why they ...

Romans 9:28 participles

The text: λόγον γὰρ συντελῶν καὶ συντέμνων ποιήσει κύριος ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς. It seems pretty evident that the participles modify the nominative kurios, but how are they to be understood? Most treat them adverbially, often citing manner. Any insights are appreciated, and if this has been dealt with earlier...

Romans 6:21 agreement

The pertinent text: τίνα οὖν καρπὸν εἴχετε τότε ἐφ' οἷς νῦν ἐπαισχύνεσθε; τὸ γὰρ τέλος ἐκείνων θάνατος. My questions have to do with the matter of grammatical agreement, which appears to begin with the noun καρπὸν (fruit, outcome, result, produce) which looks to be explained by the prepositional phr...
