Re: Koine NT in UNCIAL script ONLINE

About four years ago I decided I wanted to read the GNT in uncial script for my daily reading. So I "made" a GNT from the Robinson Byz GNT and had it bound. Was actually kind of cool, if you are into UNCIAL. I put spaces between words and verse numbers, so not quite "authentic." ...

Re: ὁ ἀληθινὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ Θεὸς Λόγος

When I read the quote cold, I read it as "the true 'God of God' word". He is the true word, which is God of God

That is, a (similar, but not identical) echo of the creed: Θεὸν ἀληθινὸν ἐκ Θεοῦ ἀληθινοῦ.

Whether or not that works grammatically, I don't know.

Re: Migne’s Patrologia Graeca OCR

Mike -- Thanks for the links. I don't think those are OCR'ed files though. Jean -- Thanks. I downloaded the text files. Unless I missed it, I think the In Genesim sermons in there are the 1-9 sequence, rather than the 1-67 sequence that I am looking for -- these are actually two different homily ser...

Migne’s Patrologia Graeca OCR

Hi, I'm looking for volume 54 of Migne's Patrologia Graeca in a good OCR file. I'm working through Chrysostom's Homilies on Genesis. The first 2/3 of the text is in Volume 53, which has a great OCR version posted on archive.org at https://archive.org/details/pg53chryso7/page/n3 . But I can't find vo...

Online Latin / Using Greek to Learn Latin

This is obviously a bit off-topic for this forum, but I am interested in learning latin.
1. Does anyone have any favorite online resources for doing that?
2. Even better, are there any learning resources (print or online) that use greek to teach latin?
Thanks!

Re: Greek Language of the Early Christian Writings

I think that depends somewhat on who you are reading. The Didache is simple Greek that is very like the New Testament. John Chrysostom is later, harder, with a theology that has developed significantly since the New Testament. In general, the earliest fathers (the Apostolic Fathers) will be easiest...

Re: Expertise in Greek

Thanks. However, I think my questions are getting interpreted as something along the lines of "what is the best way to learn Greek", which isn't what I am trying to ask. My own fault. Here are my questions, hopefully sharpened: 1. Is it true that most expert academics in NT Greek do not ha...

Re: Porter's SBL review of "The Greek Verb Revisited"

I apologize because my previous post was much too strongly worded to further any discussion. I also should have started a new thread. I also think I mishandled some buzzwords that made things worse. I wasn't intending to say anything about pedagogy. By "fluent" I only meant the ability to ...

Re: Porter's SBL review of "The Greek Verb Revisited"

I don't get it. If a person can't fluently read Greek, how can they claim to be an expert on Greek? How do they have any authority whatsoever to opine on the meaning of a Greek text or construction? It's like listening to a blind man give a long lecture about what "red" looks like, isn't i...
