Re: resource/method using aorist stems

Allow me to clarify the difference between learn and memorize. To learn Koine Greek everyone must learn or understand all the principle parts. However if one can easily derive the rest from the aorist stem, then to learn them, one need not memorize them all. Perhaps the prof (and I) should have said...

Re: resource/method using aorist stems

Jason, what the professor was communicating is that, although Greek is traditionally taught so that verbs are parsed starting from the present tense, it makes more sense to parse from the Aorist. He taught that there are a series of rules and principles that, when applied, correctly parse Greek verb...

resource/method using aorist stems

I was not sure if I should post this here or in methods - I'm looking for a resource based on a method. I took Greek I with classic resources based on present-tense stems. On the first day of Greek II the professor said something like, "I know you spent a lot of time memorizing parsing charts b...

Re: Lexical classification resource

Regarding: https://github.com/Clear-Bible/macula-greek/
Jonathan, That sounds like it will be great - especially for those who do not have BibleWorks like I do. Is there documentation on how to set this up and use it, or is it still too early for documentation?

Re: Lexical classification resource

Can you recommend an English to 1-cent Greek reference that does not require the 2nd step of finding out where/how the word was used?

Lexical classification resource

Is there a lexicon that classifies all or most Koine and/or Classical Greek words like Louw-Nida does? I believe that Louw-Nida only includes words from the Bible. It would be helpful to know other words that they could have used. For example, Louw-Nida only lists one word with the meaning, "to...

Re: articular adjectives - Do they HAVE to be substantival?

Thanks, this is helpful! I was not aware of Robinson's assertion that articular adjectives can be appositional instead of substantival. Having looked it up, he is referring to cases where the article is repeated, so it does not apply to Mat 6.4 and 6, but it supports my theory that the rule on artic...

articular adjectives - Do they HAVE to be substantival?

A friend of mine says all articular adjectives HAVE to be substantival. Is that true? The articular adjective τῷ κρυπτῷ occurs four times in Mat 6:4-6. If it were substantive, it seems that one would have to translate it as something like "the secret place", or "the secret way" b...

article on μητρὸς in Mat 1.18

τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ Μαρίας in Mat 1.18 Since Mary was just mentioned in verse 16, the article here could be understood as an article of previous reference, “His [previously-mentioned] mother Mary”. Or, since Matthew just finished his book of genealogy, and this is the start of a new section, it could e...
