Re: Trouble with Papyrus that bans divination

Hi guys, again, thanks so much. And yes, "ellipses" is the correct word for these things! If I may impose on you again, this is what I have so far. It makes much more sense, but I don't have any idea for μηδενα κινδυνον. 1. [ἐντυχὼν πολλοῖ]ς οἰ̣[ηθ]ε̣ῖσιν μαντείας τρόποις ἐξαπατᾶσθ̣[αι] 2. [ε]ὐ̣θ̣[έ...

Re: Mt. 23:24 Waiter there's a camel in my soup!

Back to your original question - imo it was meant to be a humorous hyperbole.

Re: Chrysostom's Greek text on 1-2 Thessalonians

Chrysostom follows the "majority" reading of the trickiest textual difficulty of 1 Thessalonians - 1 Thess 2:7 - "But we were gentle" (ηπιοι, so Chrysostom), or "But we were children" (νηπιοι). See [00434]. I think Paul wrote νηπιοι, based on the earlier mss and lectio dificilior.

Re: Professor of New Testament, Costa Rica

Shirley, hi! I was there from '83-'86, and have very fond memories. We lived in Bankhead, and had regular season tickets to the orchestra, and attended Bridge of Don Baptist Church. My office in Kings was in the tower to the south of the Kings chapel. See you!

Trouble with Papyrus that bans divination

I am doing research on the use of περιεργος word group in the sense of "meddling in magic". A search turned up this "Papyrus letter from 198 CE, containing a Roman edict in Egypt that which outlaws magic. From P. Coll. Youtie 1.30". Ἐντυχὼν πολλοῖς οἰηθεῖσιν μαντείας τρόποις ἐξαπατᾶσθαι εὐθέως ἀναγκ...
