Question about preposition εκ

Is εκ always ablative? When do we translate it as "out from" vs. "out of" ? I'm trying to parse 1 John 3:9 Πᾶς ὁ γεγεννημένος ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἁμαρτίαν οὐ ποιεῖ, ὅτι σπέρμα αὐτοῦ ἐν αὐτῷ μένει: καὶ οὐ δύναταιἁμαρτάνειν, ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ γεγέννηται. In my textbook Essentials of New Test...

Re: Reflexive pronoun and Possessive adjective

Thank you so much for these examples so I may see the different uses of ίδιος and εαυτού. Gaining more insight on how to approach my GNT studies. These and some readings from Deissmann and J.H. Moulton helped me understand further what Jonathan has answered in the first place. Thanks to Stirling Bar...

Wes Wood, thank you for the clarification and no malicious intent was noted. My main query is rooted on the language problem which was answered by Jonathan . It has however some practical applications thus my questioning mind went a little further, sorry about that . My question has been addressed a...

Re: Reflexive pronoun and Possessive adjective

Yes Wes Wood, a good point indeed . 1 Kings 15:5 supports 2 Sam 12:7-8, but I am not making a case for polygamy( polygyny) either . It seems that the number of wives a man can have was not restricted in OT and I have been asking if it has been changed in NT . Thus the question of the Greek translati...

Thank Sirs, for your reply . And I just sent an email requesting for change name :) , sorry about that oversight. I am still hoping somebody can help enlighten the Apostle's use of 2 different Greek phrases here. I have been studying this verse because this has been used by those who believe that Go...

Hi! Kumusta?!

Hello, my name Maria Cezar from small province in the Philippines. When God saved me 2 years ago, the Bible has become the most important book for me. That is why I am learning New Testament Greek. I am glad to have found this site.

Reflexive pronoun and Possessive adjective

1 Corinthians 7:2 uses two different Greek words for " his own" and "her own". The former being a reflexive pronoun and the latter a possessive adjective. Can you please comment when and why a writer would use those? Are they two different words with different meanings in Greek ?...
